Thanksgiving Autumn Offering Festival Equinox.
For the Germans the Thanksgiving took three days from 21-23. September. They gave a big feast and drank mead. The gods are thanked for the harvest. They left a tuft of grain in the field so that Odin's horse Sleipnir had something to eat. From the last grain cut a wreath was braided. As a victim, you also liked to hang the last apple on the tree.
Partly this was also a "harvest fire ignited, and partly it has been customary to throw a small ?? fruit sacrifice ??, cereal grains, and other gifts into the fire.
Samhain (so-called Hallooween) is one of the four major Irish-Celtic festivals and takes place on the night of October 31 on the first of November. It is a funeral, where the ancestor is thought. At that time, it was believed that the souls of the dead had returned to their homes. The celebration also marked the end of the summer, the arrival of cattle in the stables.
Customs and traditions sometimes differ or overlap in different cultures. Samhain and also the autumn sacrifice are of pagan origin, partly persecuted, reinterpreted or used / abused for their purposes by the Christian church.
It is up to us to keep the old customs in the original tradition ...
