This crystal salt was created by the drying out of a primal sea more than 22 million years ago. Origin: The Salt Range is located in the Punjab province in northern Pakistan; this is located 200-300 kilometers south of the Himalayas. The huge salt deposit, 400-600 meters deep, is one of the southwestern foothills of the Himalayas. This salt range was created by actively pushing sedimentary sequences in the foothills of the Himalayas. From a geological point of view, the Salt Range is part of the growing Himalayan mountain system. The Himalaya Mountains were created during the Tertiary through continental shift.
