Product information "Goddess Skadi Tree the alder - alder wood bowl - (large)"

In Germanic-Nordic mythology, the red alder is a tree of the goddess Skadi.

Alder trees are also considered to be protective trees. Alder wood is very durable and insensitive to rotting (cities in the water stand on alder posts!).

In earlier times, the alder was worshiped both as a symbol of death and on the other hand as a symbol of fertility. She also embodied resurrection and rebirth. In the Middle Ages it was also considered the tree of the Erlkönig (male role).
The alder wood turns red when it is hit; it was seen as an unmistakable sign that the trees must be inhabited by souls - alder women, fairies or elves.
It is inhabited by various forms of light - ghosts, fairies (female roles) and elves, as well as by eerie creatures from water, bog and swamp. The alder has multiple bipolar meaning.
