Freyr, the god of love and fertility, gave this liqueur its name.
Freyr is the son of the sea god Njörd and was initially married to his sister Freya after the custom of the Wanen. But when he falls madly in love with the giant daughter Gerda after the Wan Wars, he campaigns for your favor. The servant Skirnir helps Freyr to woo Gerda. However, Gerda always rejects the advertising. Only when Skirnir threatens Gerda with the curse of eternal ugliness does she consent to the wedding with Freyr. As a reward, the servant Skirnir receives the magic sword from Freyr. At Ragnarök, however, Freyr lacked the sword in the fight against the fire giant Surt. Instead of the sword, it is reported how Freyr fights with his deer antlers.
Freyr is the master of Lichtalfheim. His mount is the golden boar Gullinborsti created by the dwarves, who was faster than any horse. Freyr also had the Skidbladni ship, also forged by the dwarves. The ship was so big that there was room for all the Ases and their weapons. Wherever the ship was heading, there was always wind. The ship could also be folded so small that it would fit in a pocket.
