Siegfried or Sigurd, the glorious dragon slayer, can be found in various songs and stories from European countries and is still considered the shining hero who bravely, bravely and invincibly moves out into the world to do great deeds for fame and fortune. His strength corresponds to his physical size. His sword Gram or Balmung is known that was once created by the gods. His horse Grani is a descendant of the eight-legged god Sleipnir. The most famous story is the overcoming of the dragon Fafnir. A bath in the blood of the slain lindworm hardens his skin so that no weapon can hurt or kill him anymore. He eats the roasted heart of the dragon and understands the language of the birds, which immediately warn him of his foster father, the greedy blacksmith Regin. Only at one point on his back is he still vulnerable: when he took a bath in the dragon's blood, there was a linden leaf on one spot on his back. This spot under his shoulder blade is his undoing when the spear of the treacherous Hagen pierces him from behind at a water source (the sword of Gutthorm in the Wolsungen).
