Vegvísir - Signpost - Stainless steel ring with runes.
The Vegvísir is a mystical magic symbol, which should probably be a "guide through life" - or it is so!
There are various assumptions about the meaning and structure of the symbol.
The symbol is known from the Huld manuscript around 1880. An assignment to the Vikings is controversial and not yet proven.
The center of the eight spoke symbol similar to a hagal rune stands for the "me".
It is u.A. suspected that this could be from the Nordic mythology to the 9 worlds:
- The Upper World: Asgard - Vanaheim - Lichtalfhome
- The Middle-World: Muspilheim - Midgard - Niflhome
- The Lower World: Svartalfheim - Jötunheim - Hel
The Huld manuscript was first written hundreds of years after the end of the Viking Age.
It says in the manuscripts, "If this sign is worn, you will never lose yourself in storms or bad weather, even if the way is unknown."
The word "Vegvísir" comes from the Icelandic language and means signpost!
A clear indication of where the symbol comes from is not found in the Huld manuscripts, nor is it attributed to the early Middle Ages (or possibly even earlier).
Likewise, it is not clearly known whether it is suitable for navigation on e.g. Ships was used.
Therefore, we consciously keep covered here because no provable evidence could be provided so far.
The magic charisma, power and strength of the symbol is hardly to be denied!
